16. Can Cancer Research UK claim Gift Aid on my gift?
1. What will the recipients of my eCards actually receive? They will be sent an email containing a virtual envelope and they will just need to click on the link to open your eCard. If the person can only receive plain text emails, they will still receive the link, but there won’t be a virtual envelope in the email.

2. How much does it cost to send an eCard? There is no set or obligatory cost for sending eCards. We simply ask you to make a donation to Cancer Research UK. The charity relies heavily on donations made by the public to continue our life-saving research into cancer, so your donation will be greatly appreciated. Within your shopping basket, you will be asked to enter your donation amount. Perhaps you’d like to think about how much you would have spent on paper cards and postage or simply decide on how much you’d like to donate to the charity.

3. How many people can I send each eCard to? You can send each eCard to up to 1,000 people at one time. If you wish to send more just return to the My eCards section.

4. Can I save an eCard and send it later? Yes. When you create your first eCard you will be asked to create an account. Once you have done this, make sure you are always logged in when you create more eCards. That way your eCards will be saved in the eCards in Progress section of My eCards as you create them. You can go back at any time to continue customising and to send your eCards. Your eCard is saved at each stage of customisation (i.e. each time you click the Next step button).
You can select to send your eCards on a specific date, just add in your details on the recipient page, and we will endeavour to ensure that your cards are delivered on the chosen date.

5. Will I have a record of who I have sent my eCards to? Once you have registered and logged in, each eCard you send will be saved in the Sent eCards section of My eCards. This tells you the number of recipients that each eCard was sent to, but does not give you a list of exactly who. This is because the list of recipients could get too long for the site to show.

6. How can I customise my eCard? You can customise the front and the inside of your eCard.
For the front, you can choose from our selection of designs – animated and static – or you can upload your own photo or image.
You can put a message on both the front and inside of the eCard and customise the text style, colour and position.
You can also upload an image or company logo to the inside of the eCard. And you can link this image/logo to your website if you like.
If you’d like to add some music to your eCard, simply select a track from the list.

7. How do I send my eCard to everyone in my email account? You can upload your contacts from your email account into your Send and Give address book. Just go into your email account (Hotmail, Yahoo, Outlook, etc) and follow instructions to download your contacts into a .txt, .tab or .csv file. Once you have done that just use the Upload contacts feature in My address book to upload the email addresses from that file. You can only upload email addresses, not the names attached to them, so you may want to add in names afterwards.

8. Can you claim back Gift Aid when I use your eCards? Absolutely, as long as you are a UK taxpayer. You just need to tick the Gift Aid declaration tick box in your shopping basket and the value of all your donations will increase by 28 per cent.

9. Why should I create an account? You need to create an account to send your eCards. You’ll also be able to access your address book where you can save your contacts’ email addresses. This means you won’t have to search for a contact’s email address each time you send an eCard. You can even group your contacts and then send eCards to selected groups.

10. What if I forget my password? Just go to the Forgotten password page, which you can get to from the first page in the My Account section. Enter your email address and we will send you an email with a new password. If you want to then change it to something more memorable, simply log in to your account with this new password and go to the My password page, where you can enter your own.

11. What if my details change? Just log into your account and go to the My personal details or My business details page where you can update your information.

13. What is an alternative gift? An alternative gift is a donation to a key area of our work. We have 6 main categories and you can choose from a range of gifts that fall within these categories.
- Helping to fund the running expenses of our laboratories
- Helping to fund our scientists, doctors and nurses
- Providing information about cancer
- Our clinical trial and drug development work
- Funding research in your local area
- Funding research into specific cancers
Simply choose a gift from a category that is important to you. Then write a personal message and we’ll send this out, along with a description of your gift, in a paper card or eCard – whichever you’d prefer.
Our alternative gift selection will offer gifts for all occasions - birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, or just to let someone know you care. Gifts vary from £6 to £700 in value, so you’ll be sure to find something for everyone. Whether you’re giving to someone who already seems to have everything, or who will appreciate a gift that helps to beat cancer, you will know you are giving something special.

14. What will the recipient of an alternative gift receive? When you select a gift, we will send the recipient a gift card, which contains details of the gift and your personal message. You can choose either an eCard or a paper card and also choose from a range of designs.
If you choose an eCard, your gift will arrive immediately. If you select a paper card it will be sent first class within two working days.

15. Where will my money go? Your donation will be used to fund our life-saving work. All of our alternative gifts are vital to this and help to show you the sort of things your money could fund. However, to allow us to spend your donation as effectively as possible and respond to the changing needs of our scientists, doctors and nurses, your donation will be spent on whatever is most needed in the area of work you have chosen. So you can be assured that your money will be spent wisely and will help us to beat cancer. For example:
- If you select yeast, cryotubes, microscope slides or equipment for scientists your donation will either be used for that item or will be used to fund the most appropriate and urgent running expenses of our research labs.
- If you choose to support one of our scientists, doctors or nurses in the important work they do, your donation will help to fund the salaries of our researchers and their running expenses.
- If you choose to help pay for Welcome Back! booklets or cancer information nurses, your donation may either be used for the item selected, or will help fund other cancer information that we provide for the general public.
- If you support new treatments and clinical trials, your money will help fund the many clinical trials that we run, or our drug development work to help us find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.
- When you make a donation towards research in London, Cambridge, Oxford, Leeds, Southampton, Cardiff, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Birmingham or Belfast, your money will fund research in these areas.
- And when you choose to fund specific cancers your money will go directly towards researching the cancer you selected.

16. Can Cancer Research UK claim Gift Aid on my gift? Yes, as long as you are a UK taxpayer. You just need to tick the Gift Aid box in your shopping basket and the value of all your donations will increase by 28 per cent.
